Dharwad: In line with state government directives, farmers in the region are receiving a dedicated six hours of high-quality electricity – four during the day and two at night – emphasized District in Charge Minister Santosh Lad.

He stressed the significance of efficient utilization, particularly by sugarcane and paddy growers, despite limited rainfall in the district. To ensure power availability, especially during impending summer months, Lad instructed HESCOM and KPTCL officials to take proactive measures to avert power outages.

Chairing a meeting of the District Power Supply Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium, Minister Lad expressed concerns about the prevailing drought conditions in the district. Despite the scarcity of rain, electricity continues to be provided for essential needs such as livestock, agriculture, and domestic usage. Highlighting the increased demand due to insufficient rainfall, Lad called for a conscious and restrained usage of power, especially among farmers, with an emphasis on conducting awareness campaigns.

Lad emphasized that households, industries, and commercial establishments have thus far received uninterrupted power and should continue to do so without interruptions. He directed officials to take necessary actions to ensure a consistent power supply.

Highlighting the success of the Gruhajyoti scheme, where each household receives free electricity up to 200 units, Lad noted the significant impact on 4,63,983 beneficiaries in the district. This initiative has brought substantial benefits to the poorer and middle-class sections of society, he said.

The minister also addressed concerns related to the Akrama Sakrama scheme, aiming to regularize illegal agricultural pump sets. He stressed the need for more vigilance and proactive action by the HESCOM team to prevent instances of overloading and illegal connections to transformers, which can lead to technical complications.

Encouraging public involvement, Lad urged citizens to report power outages by dialing the toll-free helpline 1912 or 18004251033. For issues related to transformer failure, a dedicated number 18004254754 was provided to streamline reporting procedures.

Stating that Dharwad district necessitates 5 million units of electricity daily while currently receiving 4.5 million units, Srikant Sasalmatti, Technical Director of HESCOM, affirmed that despite this shortfall, the district’s power supply remains relatively stable.

In the meeting Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, ZP CEP Swaroopa TK, Dharwad District Superintendent of Police Dr. Gopal Byakod, as well as HESCOM and KPTCL Officials.
